I too loved the catacombs. I would love to see more "interior" adventures whether in caves, dungeons, castles, etc....

Some could be assigned as missions or quests, but others could be bonus for the loot or elite skills.

Well, see, all fantasy games I like, not just single player but mmo too, consisted of outdoor camps, castle adventures and, my favotrite, dungeons.

Dungeons being monster lairs, underground labyrinths, passages under castle ruins, cave networks, ect ect.

The best times I have ever had in a fantasy game has always been the "Dungeon Crawl". Always.

Skulking about a dank, rough hewn, passageway, dispatching various denizens, that wished myself and crew dead and served up for kibble. Discovering treasure. Foiling traps and puzzles that atempt to hinder adventurers as monsters seek the party to render the party dead.

And always remember, the sencond word in D&D is dungeon.

Bring on the dungeons!

My hypothosis for the lack of dungeons is the camera system. Being in small enclosed areas would probably drive you crazy because of how the camera interacts with the environment. The only solution I see is to do it NWN style buts thats probably more trouble than its worth. Or as they do in the catacombs: just have really high ceilings and large rooms.

Having spent so much time in Post-Seared, I have to say that I really do miss the Catacombs. The art was wonderful, and it was cool exploring and not knowing where I was going.

What if it's a mapped out dungeon? An interview I read with the spokes person from GW said that players really like the whole "underground" thing. Actually not only would I like to see more dungeon like environments, but ones with multiple subterranean levels/floors. If you're going to go underground, go way down! Also how about having some areas so dark that you need torch to see?

Having the high ceilings and the large rooms would really be the only way they would do it, wouldn't it? I know I'd be complaining a lot if my group went into a dungeon only to be trapped in a narrow passage between two level 30 monsters. Ouch.

Between the horreneous colision detection and camera mechanics, yes, large expances are pretty much the only way.

practically: considering how much we get trapped in corners by npc's right now, i think dungeons would be a really bad idea.

aside from that, am I the only one here who hates dungeon crawls -- especially getting lost in a dungeon, walking the empty corridors (as you've killed all mobs already) over and over searching for that one small doorway that you missed because it was obscured in the darkness?

The Camara needs improving anyhow, also they need to make the map change for once you enter underground areas as well.

Needless to say I miss the catacombs... what a waste of an area of newbie land

Yes i agree with this poster, there is too much exploring above ground. And yes encountering levels/floors even traps would be great. some how i always feel that the ranger is never loved in guild wars like other characters are, having some underground missions with need of rangers would be great. - they need a detect trap skill..
A map, well i just say have another copy of the same map there is now, except it shows an underground version of the island.. It be great to see some underground dwarven towns or cities, too..

Seeing new hazardous envioments would good too, Tho i always wanted to see it rain in guildwars.. or have blizzard, sand, or thunder storms.. but there never is any.. :-(

Anyways i'm not too fussed how guildwars turns out. It has found its place on my dusty shelf.. along side another attempt of a fantasy non/cheating world.. diablo2. ugh. what are games turning into.. Might just invest in that Life i always wanted.

I find the lack of dungeons to be very disappointing. I remember adventuring outside of Droknar's Forge and came across this:

Okay, upon closer inspection it's a furnace. But, from a distance, it looked like a really cool dungeon entrance, being guarded by some powerful monsters! My party got pretty excited at the prospect of adventuring underground.
Also, have you noticed the "fake" caves in this region? They paint the texture to give the impression of depth. Very annoying!

the GW guild site is talking anout Sorrows furnace, and from the previews of it, it looks like that there will be a mine-like area to explore where the Summit dwarves are guarding it.

Closed areas to fight will be something new. Open places gets boring. Example: a battle inside the enemy temple or palace.

well, i for one love the cats...
but i have to tell ye sad news..the cats WERE nuked by the searing...sad to say but true.
if you wander about the back part of post sears old ascalon, near the bridge with the charr, there is a high area that looks down on to ruins of a square shaped but...its the place in the Cats where the girls who colect stood, and you could sneak down to the gargoyles quick from behind it. totally gone and reduced to ash and rubble

reason.....obvious. the huge crystals that droped form the sky smacked into the ground so hard, it caused falts and tremors and collapsed whole sections of the cats, thisch is why some areas of old ascalon are so deep. ther *are* whats left in parts, of the cats....

however, whats to stop there being parts of the cats we never knew in pre, from comming up in Post. say, where wizards folly was. there were parts of Folly and Green Hills that had open viewable parts of the cats in, just have a new wizards folly map, connected to the shiverpeaks (but not to old ascalon, for goddess sake >.< ve have enough problems with cheap ass armour tricks in low level arenas right now)
say, there was a earthquake (probaly around the time your char acended or finished the last main mission) and it opened up a passageway thru the mountains inot whats left of wizards folly. and from there, some of the ice cavern passageways went into what is left of the cats, and we find areas that are still about down there....and some that are totally new, because the shifting of the rocks opened up new sections of the underground.....and you could add new peeps down theire, that maybe use the charr sky crystals as building materials ^^

I think I posted a topic like this before. This game definitely lacks any form of thinking. Especially since you can choose a warrior and not worry about jack shit because you're undestructable. I'd like labyrnths (yeah sp) and rewards and stuff. Monsters that require organized teams to take now (so far the hardest enemies are monk mursaat that require a mesmer to come along. all the rest take no skill, just tanking and throwing around attacks and healing damage. That's skill... NOT.) Maybe even several monsters and deciding which to take out first etc... this would not be a place for waves of monsters like the actual game (which is a piece of shit) and what the heck. I'm wasting my time. This isn't going to exist because it'll get nerfed or something. Pfft.

Then again, if you had the bosses drop keys to chests and chests requiring multiple keys from ends of the dungeon and as long as monsters in there have:

More than one class and support each other well. Skills to take out warriors and monks and solo-ers easy. Such as shatter enchantments etc for those UW monks and new skills like, "If there is no one else in the area, all chaos damage is dealt directly to target foe and they are incapacitated.) lol ok... well there'd have to be stuff but... Yeah forget my rambling, I like the idea, lets have more like it.
